Ultimate Life Hacks! Gita gives you

Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagwad Gita is the most valued sacred ancient text that is highly revered in Hinduism. It is a Holy Scripture which forms the most essential part of the great Epic ‘Mahabharata’ and which comprises of 700 verses. The literal meaning of Bhagavad Gita means “The Song of the Lord.”

With changing times, everything around us has evolved, but the teachings of Bhagavad Gita had inspired and till date continue to inspire and change the lives of many. Reading the Akhand Srimad Bhagawad Gita Katha Paath forms the base or the core for people who chose to devote their life in the worship of the Supreme.

Bhagavad Gita is the gateway that guides us to lead a good life. The Bhagavad Gita is an epic sonnet between a distressed hero, a great archer and one of the five Pandavas named Arjuna and Lord Krishna who is one of the prime deities in Hinduism.  Krishna guides Arjuna during a period of despair. Though it is a dialogue where Lord Krishna is addressing Arjuna, in a broader spectrum, He (Lord Krishna) is truly addressing we all.

Bhagvad Gita gives us the ultimate life hacks but today we will talk about 3 Bhagavad Gita Lessons that we can implement in our lives:

Without diving into the quick and dirty subtleties, I will list three things we would all be able to gain from this old Hindu content. Obviously, there is something beyond three things we can gain from this book, yet I discover these to be the most significant and handy ones that we can apply in our day by day lives.

  • Dharma (“Sacred Duty”)

As stated in the Bhagavad Gita

“Look to your own duty; do not tremble before it . . . your own duty done imperfectly is better than another man’s done well.”

According to the above statement, all of us take birth into the world with a “purpose, and assigned duty”. We must realise this duty and dedicatedly do our duty while we are alive. For instance, Arjuna’s purpose or his duty was to be a warrior whereas, for us, it might be the duty of being a decent mother, an obedient daughter, or a loyal and loving companion. This verse tells us to willingly perform our duties with great conviction rather than asking the question ‘why me?’

For instance, If you have to take care of your ill mother, do not think of it as an inconvenience or burden rather consider it to be your duty and with complete devotion and look at it as a profound commitment. By doing so we can change our perspective towards looking at things and this, in turn, will help us to lead more significant lives.

  • Discipline

In Bhagavad Gita ‘Yoga’ is associated with the attribute of discipline. In one episode Arjuna just halts in the middle of the battlefield without fighting his enemy. This is when Lord Krishna commands Arjuna to fulfil his duty as a warrior and to resume the battle instead of getting scared or paralysed by a situation and letting the fear or unnecessary thoughts

In this book, yoga is defined as a discipline. It is the path of disciplined action. In the epic scene, Arjuna (the warrior) stops in the middle of a battlefield, forfeiting his sacred duty. Then Krishna comes along and demands him to take action.

The verse regarding discipline is as follow:

“The disciplined man attains perfect peace; the undisciplined man is in bondage.”

According to the above verse, an individual who leads a disciplined life has strong control over his mind and can control his thoughts and physical needs and urges and thus lead a good life. Whereas, a person without any discipline in his life is driven by his wavering mind and is solely responsible to bring his life to a standstill.

  • Self-Knowledge

We always believe in the notion that everything in life is temporary and momentary but according to the Bhagavad Gita not everything is temporary there is one thing that is constant and that is Self, our core and soul. It says that the solutions that we seek outside are actually what we must seek within. According to the following verse

“So sever the ignorant doubt in your heart with the sword of self-knowledge, Arjuna! Observe your discipline arise!”

Lord Krishna talks about learning the art of mastering Self. He further tells us that we must rise above the ignorant seld and seek knowledge of our true sense, about who we actually are. We all run behind material things and are often driven and dependent on titles and material possessions which are temporary. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tells Arjuna to peep within himself and understand what his real self is made of and what he truly is.

The Bhagavad Gita is not just a dialogue that is exchanged between Lord Krishna and Arjun but they are life lessons which are beautifully explained by the Lord to all of us. The Bhagavad Gita is filled with knowledge and answers that can guide us in every walk of life. Given above are just drops of knowledge that are shared with you all whereas, there is a lot more which one needs to seek, learn and adapt from the Holy Bhagavad Gita.
